Egypt's Major Ports of Entry:
Egypt has 6 major airports:
Cairo International airport (2 terminals)
Alexandria Nozha
Luxor, Upper Egypt
Aswan, Upper Egypt
Hurghaga, Red Sea
Sharm-el-Sheikh, South Sinai.
Cairo is the busiest airport in Egypt and can be reached
by non-stop flights from most major African, Asian,
North America and European cities. It is a great way
to enter Egypt, due in large part to the remarkable
vantage point provided from the aircraft, which offers
a dramatic view of Cairo, the Nile, and the Giza pyramids.
From the airport:
Your options in Cairo for transport include limousine,
taxi, and bus. The cost of taking a limo can fluctuate
depending on the distance, number of passengers, luggage,
and on a person's bargaining skills. In case you take
a taxi, LE40-45 (per trip not per person) should do
it, but again it has to do with the bargaining skills.
The sooner you adopt the patience, high sense of humor,
wile, and sociability that characterizes Egyptians'
attitudes in situations like these, the sooner you will
start enjoying the experience and feeling like a plucky
Cairene yourself.
Buses and minibuses from the airport are also available
and can be boarded from Terminal 1. There is no schedule
for the bus, as it waits until it is full and makes
stops at
Midan Al-Tahrir in downtown Cairo, in
Mohandeseen, and along the Pyramids Road
in Giza. It is not recommended to take a regular
city bus as they are often too crowed for foreigners.
